Designed for educational administrators, managers and leaders, this program addresses trends in learning and education. We examine the notions of formal, non-formal and informal learning as defined by the Organisation for Economic Development and Cooperation (OECD) and Werquin (2007). We will talk about the differences between each type of learning and new trends to value learning that happens in non-formal and informal contexts, particularly in the fields of literacy and language learning.
We will go over each type of learning, offering examples to help you understand what the different categories are and how they differ.
From there, we will examine the growing trend towards valuing non-formal and informal learning. We will talk about asset-based approaches to evaluation and assessment and how these are replacing traditional deficiency-based models.
Finally, we will discussion implications for the future of education.
